Keep your Water Supply Clean

Taking Action To Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Status:

Description:

The future is not somewhere we are going. It is something we are creating. Every day we do things that make some futures more probable and others less likely.

Global warming already disrupts millions of lives daily in the forms of destructive weather patterns and loss of habitat. What is already happening is only the tip of the melting iceberg, for it is our children and grandchildren who may suffer most from the effects of global warming. Hundreds of millions of people may be exposed to famine, water shortages, extreme weather conditions and a 20 - 30% loss of animal and plant species if we do not reduce the rate of global warming and reduce GHG emissions. On the other hand, having warmer winters means longer growing seasons in temperate and subarctic climes, sometimes allowing an additional crop to be planted and harvested each year, or simply making the existing crops more productive. This article outlines some ways that you can act to help prevent the Earth from warming further. While humankind has the ability to destroy the planet, we can also help protect and sustain it.

Reducing your carbon and greenhouse gas emissions will not only make your personal living space more sustainable but it will also save you money in both the short- and long-term. Global warming is occurring more rapidly than it was originally expected to. Only forty years ago, the big worry was global cooling. Even if you remain a cynic, however, and disagree with the consensus of scientists, you will benefit from reduced pollution, a more healthful lifestyle and increased savings from enacting these simple activities that will not reduce the quality of your life.

Small Steps to Keep Chemicals out of our Water Supply

Status:
In Progress
Description:

We unconsciously flush, pour, wash chemicals and toxins down the drain every day. This daily dose of pollutants in to our water supply builds up over time. I have taken an active step in ensuring that we drastically reduce (and hopefully eliminate) the chemical load that our house puts on the water supply. I also make sure to educate my friends and family about the impact of this as well, and help them to change their habits too!

For example, some of the easy things we do include not using fertilizers, insecticides or pesticides in our yard and garden. We've made the switch to certified organic, 100% beneficial ingredient soaps and personal care products that don't contain any synthetic chemicals. We don't use chemical cleaning products (we use a natural probiotic cleaner that leaves healthy bacteria on your surfaces).

It's a small step, but one that has a big impact if everyone takes it!

We set out 2 years ago on our action plan, moving to the Philippines, a part of the world which has been kept poor and so fully understands the concepts of Reduce, reuse and recycle. We have been helping our workers to better understand the reasons behind global warming, how we all can help the producer and consumer nations reduce some of the causes of the problems we all face, by taking pride in our creations which are all hand made from plant materials that come from our organic fields, to our workshops were they are processed using ancient methods and finally packed and sent to the UK. We understand Janine Benyus idea of "silently, in water at room temperature". All of our tools are "made"this way...no chemicals, no machinery, no factory..We love it

What I have done lately....

Description:

First let me tell u, I don't like plants and trees, but I LOVE them, yep I do. Its better to love them more than loving your gf. They will pay off more than she can. Whatever.

I had a total 120 plants on my rooftop. The place was short and due to less water supply I and my mom was unable to work on more of em. So i move on to buying a new plot near our home. It was a dead land though(so called, but I found that the nutrition was lesser than normal, so I applied some nitrogen salts to make it a lil living for plants, though it took only 4 hours or me to get that job done n done)so it was a cheap deal for me. As all tree lover should know that all trees(mostly) do love to "eat" nitrogen compounds like we humans do(meat type food i.e. eggs, fish, muttons etc.) So they will grow faster than normal and will get onto its own in a lesser duration. But yea u have to keep feeding the land so that those lil babies get their food in a proper way. There after we had a deep water pump set near so all i did is just bought a 10 mm water pipe and channeled it to my garden, that was easy though. Now I can give those trees water supply with no hazitation. And yea it paid off. There can be nothing good looking than all of ur trees are full with fresh green leavs is it not ? ;) And it will amplify that sight if u find some ripe fruits hanging in btwn those green lush.

That land which was a "dead" once (7 months ago), have 230 trees now. So I'd suggest all of u guys try to seek out lands which are not in use and try to make those lands a lil more fertile.

Of  course it'dcost u lesser in prise but higher in labour, but it worths if u ask me,cuz there u'll have the ultimate satishfaction when u'll see that land u worked on, have so many greens on it. All should know, that these efforts are are just NOTHINg comaparing to what we humans have already done with our mother nature, but yea at least u'll die happily thinkingthat u have done at least somethingh to her who nurished u throughout ur entire life.

Though, this texts are nothing to send my words to all nature lover like me, still I have tried my best and will keep doing these till my death. So that our future genaration may have a chance of surviving onto this soil with a more 0.0001% of positive chance for what I have done in my entire life. That is all.

I wish all should be awaken, time has ran out though still much more can be done.......

Water purification

Status:
In Progress
Description:
I need to get funding from sponsors and local Goverment for a water filtration system and introduce it to the rural areas and most infected Rivers in South Africa. My goal is to have at least 100  of these installed at various locations. My only problem is funding. Below will give you an idea what we are looking at

On the 8th of February, 2007, a solar/wind powered water purification system (Trunz) was installed at the Lynedoch EcoVillage. This unit can process water from lakes, rivers, boreholes, ocean seas and even semi-treated effluent from sewage treatment facilities, transforming polluted water into potable quality water. Using activated carbon filters, microfiltration, reverse osmosis for water desalination/demineralisation, this system can purify 20,000 litres of water per day.

The Trunz system, manufactured in Switzerland, is currently operational in Mauritania, Pakistan, Switzerland and is now being tested in South Africa at the Sustainability Institute. It has been designed for application in developing countires, disaster areas, and remote regions without access to electricity and clean water.  For more information please visit the Trunz website.
