riding a cab

I used to ride a taxi cab wherever I go. Its convinient and comfortable. However, it contributes to pollutants in the air. My resolve is, walk or use public transport whenever possible ( if weather is ok). It was hard at first, its hot and humid. So I adjusted the time that I would need to leave and move around. (between 5-7 in the evening). It was cooler and still early, people are still on the streets. you get to see your environment as it really is. Walking around gives me more ideas for projects to make things here better.

UTAH VALLEY COHOUSING COMMUNITY

Pet bottles

I realized that I was always buying beverages in pet bottles. So I decided to bring my own water. I fill a third of my drinking bottle and put it inside the freezer overnight. Before I leave in the morning, I fill it with water. I lessened my pet bottle waste and sugar/calorie intake. I lost 3 lbs. in almost 2 weeks! I also saved money. Everything is just great!

UTAH VALLEY COHOUSING COMMUNITY

Power Pipeline

Dear 11thHourAction Team, This latest blog essay is a recap of several R & D ideas, entitled "Power Pipeline" and "Goff's Hair" that I have already submitted to pretty much all of the pertinent global warming links on the Internet. Anyway, by accident, as I was reading about global warming, I remembered by accident, part of an old science fiction short story by the late SF writer Gordon R. Dickson, a 'hard' science fiction writer, as opposed to the rubber physics science fiction writers who write a kind of fantasy really. In that novella, he wrote about a future in which virtually all of the electrical power in the world came from 'free', clean electrical power generation systems, like windmill farms or hydroelectric or ocean power facilities, which do NOT emit greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming like our present electric power system, using lots of coal burning power plants does. The big problem was getting the electricity from isolated areas, like the windswept areas of middle America to the big citites on the USA coastlines. It's been proposed that we should invent superconductive Nanotubes (more on that later in this essay), to make a powerline with room temperature superconductivity, that will transmit the electricity superconductively, that is, without any power loss due to electrical resistence in the powerline cable, so that the very expensive step-up transformer depots along the way could be avoided. That is, presently, it costs too much to wire the juice from windmill farms or hydroelectric devices like Pelamis or related ocean wave power electrical power generation systems, placed in isolated areas, or the deep oceans, over vast distances, to the cities where the big electric power requiems are. So, only by having superconductive powerlines could such a plan be cost-effective. That is, a cost-effective electrically superconductive powerline could be a powerful tool to fight global warming, by enabling us to get electricity from non-polluting windmill farms and the like over great distances. They are still trying to invent that special superconductive Nanotube cable, (they CAN make superconductive Nanotubes, but only in tiny lengths, the trick is to make them longer) but in this science fiction short story, Mr. Dickson proposed a "Power Pipeline", in which a group of travelling troubleshooters went around the globe, to install a vast networking or power grid, of special flexible pipelines, that had multiple layering of composite materials, to enable liquid nitrogen to supercool an Aluminum cable electric powerline to MAKE it electrically superconductive. OK, that was a science fiction story, but, the thing is, what if we have the established technology and hardware, to do that right now? Install vast windmill farms in the American midwest, and create a 'Power Pipeline' based on this fictional one, to convey the electricity it makes to the USA coastlines cost effectively? Of course, this powerline design would be very costly, but on a very large scale, it should prove cost-effective for everyone involved. THINK BIG.The sheer scale of the project is a major stumbling block, but you could roll over part of the electricity provider profits, from an initial, relatively small installation of this project, into expanding the whole system or 'Power Pipeline' grid later on. Further, the electricity from this project could be used to empower compressed gas plants for free, give them a zero elelctric bill, to enable them to convert air into its component gases of Nitrogen and Oxygen, and liquify them, (the Oxygen could be piped out to any coal burning electric power plants to make them burn as cleanly and efficiently as is possible) to supply all of the liquid nitrogen to be used by this system, to supercool the powerline to make it superconductive. If you decide to look into this project, you should talk to a Mr. Sam Brumande, of Shesam Compressed Gases, Inc. in Cumberland, Maryland, because he practically invented the whole compressed gas industry, and if anyone could design this 'Power Pipeline' mega-system power grid using liquid nitrogen, he's the guy you should talk to. Now the other idea, "Goff's Hair" was inspired by an article in the December 5, 2005 issue of the Sun tabloid, which was printed as part of an article, "Top 10 UFO Encounters", on pages 24-25, which was printed as: "7. Goff's Hair On November 18, 1961, Nebraska farmer Theodore Goff watched a UFO zig-zagging and leaving a trail of metallic fibers, thinner than a strand of human hair and only visible in bright sunlight. The mysterious hairs were unbreakable except by fire." Look, I think that what Mr. Goff actually saw was a type of ball lightning, which is often mistaken for UFOs. Remember, nobody truly understands what ball-lightning is, but everyone's afraid of it. The 'Goff's Hair' apparently was some kind of 'ash' or Nanotube-like excretion from this ball-lightning. They MAKE Nanotubes out of pure Carbon subjected to intense electricity. What does this have to do with superconductive powerlines? Well, perhaps if the experts in the new emerging field of Nano-Technology, the art/science of making very small things for scientific and industrial applications, obtained this 'Goff's Hair', and subjected it to the same laboratory analytical tests that they do to carbon Nanotubes, perhaps that research would give them something, some technical insight into a way to mass-produce very long superconductive Nanotubes, so that we could simply use that thing to transmit electricity over great distances with no power loss due to electrical resistence, WITHOUT all of this stuff with liguid nitrogen, etc. Further, although this 'Goff's Hair' was apparently stable at room temperature, it was apparently a very rare occurence, we may not be able to obtain this 'Goff's Hair' after all, and there is a far more commonplace 'Fortean Event' (which is the term for weird things falliing out of the sky) called 'Angel Hair', which I believe might be created by clusters of ball lightning in the upper atmosphere, and which falls to earth, and simply evaporates away. It's been theorized that 'Angel Hair' might be spider web threads, but nobdy's ever found spiders in them, and unlike webbing, it evaporates. Perhaps if the whole world was put on notice, to stay alert for the next 'Angel Hair' fall or Fortean Event, they could grab it, and put it into a deep freeze in their iceboxes, or put it in a cooler with dry ice, to preserve it under cold conditions like that in the upper atmosphere where it was formed, so that the 'Angel Hair' would last long enough, to likewise be analysed by the Nano-experts to see if it could also provide some kind of technical innovation towards mass-manufacturing room temperature superconductive Nanotubes for this "Power Pipeline" purpose. Anyway, I send these ideas all over the Net, and I am repeating it here for your perusal. Please feel free to forward these R & D ideas to the REAL scientists you know. That covers it.
A New CO2 Elimination Tactic?

Dear 11thHour action Team, This is a recap of an idea that I have been sending out all over the Net, that I thought you would want to scan as well, a new CO2 elimination Tactic? I send this thing to all of the companies mentioned here, with the recommendation they coordinate, a gathering of eagles and technical hardware, to create a mega-system that could help fight global warming by eliminating a LOT of the carbon dioxide emitted by coal-burning electric power plants. Please keep in mind that the USA is presently building 120 new coal burning electric power plants, and China is now building a new one every week, which does not bode well for the global warming problem, since it means a lot more CO2, carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, will be emitted into the Earth's atmosphere to absorb more solar heat, and overheat the world. Anyway, I send this thing to Changing World Technologies, which invented a way to turn slaughterhouse waste into crude oil, GreenFuel Technologies Inc., (and also to LiveFuel Inc.) which makes a special type of algae that can be turned into oil-based fuel, and SkyWindPower Corporation, which invented a FEG, short for 'Flying Electric Generator', and they are all on the Net if you want to check them out. The basic idea is, what if we had a practically unlimited supply of electricity, Hydrogen and Oxygen gases, and lengthy floating arrays of sea gardens with this special algae in them, all part and parcel of a GIANT floating factory complex, out the middle of the world's oceans? They could create these floating factories out of the battleships made by American corporations, and they could float out to the middle of the ocean to attach to a central raft, or modified oil drilling rig, in a star formation. These floating factory complexes would have miles of linear floating sea gardens, made mostly out of recycled plastic water and soda bottles, also emanating from the central connecting raft in a star formation, to have the special algae exposed to sunlight, and be accessible to mostly-automated harvesting devices. These floating complexes would all have FEGs, which are helicopter-like devices or flying windmills, that fly three miles up into the tradewinds, to exploit the superfast winds up there, to turn a generator in them to send electricity down to the factory through its special tethers or kitelines. The electricity is used to catalyse sea water into its component element gases of Oxygen and Hydrogen, to be stored intermidently in the floating factory complex, and the juice can be used as a brute force catalyst method with Platinum and Rhodium coated devices, to all be used in an empirical process designed for this purpose by Changing World Technologies, to combine CO2 with the Hydrogen gas and the special alage, and process it into some kind of LNG type gas or oil-based fuel. That is, let's take the CO2 emitted by our coal-burning electric power plants, compress it into liquid CO2 to ship to this floating factory, to feed to the special algae along with raw sewage imported as fertilizer for the algae, to eventually turn it into gasoline. In theory, an area the size of Maryland exposed to sunlight with this special Algae could provde America with enough gasoline, but it's not really that easy getting hold of that much real estate anywhere in the world anymore, so it might be more practical or affordible to put these algae gardens out in the middle of the oceans. That is, in order to keep the CO2 of coal-burning electric power plants from overheating the Earth, it's been proposed that we liquify it, and pressure inject it into deep underground mineral deposits, to stay there forever, hopefully. The Sulfur from the smoke emissions is collected to add to concrete as a commercial additive to make it last forever. There's also a mercury component isolated by the CO2 liquification process, and perhaps they can recycle that commerically as well into flourescent light bulbs or something. Why not put all of these things on dry land? Well, the FAA might never approve of FEGs being installed on the mainlands, because their three mile long electric cable kitelines and presence of the FEGs up there, might be a danger to aircraft. Yes, the FAA is supposed to coordinate all aircraft, so collusions with other aircraft won't happen, but, it happens. Three mile long electric kitelines up in the sky might constitute a real problem on the mainlands, but they might be able to use the FEGs in the middle of the oceans with the less air traffic there. Also, the ocean is where the sea water is, to catalyse into Oxygen and Hydrogen using all of this free, clean electricity from the FEGs. The Oxygen could be liquified by this factory complex and retro-shipped along the same pathways that the liquified CO2 came from, all the way back to the coal-burning electric power plants, to inject pure Oxygen directly into the power plant furnances, to make these plants burn as cleanly and efficiently, and with zero coal particles or carbon particulate left unburned, burn up every particle of the coal, as is possible. By building such a massive complex, it could be build one ship at a time, and the initial profits from that modular factory's fuel sales, could be rolled over into paying for the manufacture of more units later on, to make it a bigger set, so we could eliminate a LOT of the CO2 from our coal-burning electric power plants and turn it into gasoline. The sheer SCALE of this idea is it's main stumbling block. How can we afford to pay for such a MASSIVE CO2 recycling complex, when America is in debt up to its ears? Technically it could work, but why bother? It's a big project, but America invented big, THINK BIG and this thing could work out. On a relatively small scale it would never be cost-effective. Ideally, we could simply use the Hydrogen gas from this mega-system as a new fuel, but, using Hydrogen right now, would require an extensive re-tooling of our entire fueling infra-structure and vehicles, due to the acidic effect on plumbing and containers of Hydrogen ions, unlike artificial gasoline would. So, please keep this in mind, although initially we could use these giant units to make gasoline, eventually, these giant floating factory complexes would be used to provide the Hydrogen we need for the 'Hydrogen Futures' project which the whole world needs. When you burn Hydrogen as fuel, its only by-product is a lot of clean water, which could be recycled into systems that need clean water, which is becoming a more and more expensive commodity in today's world. If burning Hydrogen for fuel only makes water as a 'waste' product, there's no global warming problem with it, ergo the 'Hydrogen Futures' project to save the world from global warming. Also, these giant CO2 conversion ship-systems could be manufactured by the same American companies that make our giant battleships, and offshore oil drilling rigs, and perhaps, we, America, could use these special systems as a hard monetary collaterial, to pay off our national debts to other countries, especially China, which needs some valid way to negate its own CO2 emissions problems, from their own coal-burning electric power plants, and because, of course, China and everyone in the world wants gasoline. That covers it. Please forward this basic idea thread to the REAL experts in global warming. Best Regards, Techrex

Sebastopol, CA

The Global 50/50 Lottery

Dear 11HourAction Team, This idea, which I hope your people will read, is "The Global 50/50 Lottery". It's an idea that I have been sending all over the Internet, as a possible way to lessen the extreme financial gap between the rich nations and the poor nations. There might be a way to accomplish that, and ALSO fight global warming, by exploiting mankind's infinite greed. We got to use 'economic judo' here people. That is, since human greed may have led to a lot of the economic unfairness and global warming in the world, perhaps only by using human greed can we fix these problems. That is, the USA and United Nations should create the 'Global 50/50 Lottery', the world's first truly international lottery. Presently international lotteries are illegal, for good reason, if you enter into a paying relationship with any of the scam lotteries of this sort, they simply take your credit card payments until your numbers come up, then they say your credit card was overdrawn, and you get nothing. The Nigerians are all over that thing. But the point is, there's already a build-in market niche for an international lottery, it might simply be due now. In this global 50/50 lottery, all of the rich nations' populations can buy chances for this first REAL and HONEST fully-international lottery. Globilization has come to everything else, why not the lottery? The poor nations do not buy any tickets, but if their population engages in the international population census, they are automatically registered to win. The lottery fund is allowed to increment until you got eight billion dollars. First, to avoid any legal snafus with winners refusing to pay taxes, take out half of this sum in taxes and administrative costs BEFOREHAND, and to insure that the administrative costs of this system will always be paid. Believe me, it will be best if you take out the taxes and related costs beforehand. Take the remaining four billion dollars, and divide two billion dollars into two thousand, tax-free, million dollar packets. The other two billion dollars is split into one billion dollar packets. Next, get the king of capitalism, Donald Trump, to pick out one thousand million dollar packets winning lottery numbers in a big ceremony at his casino. That part goes to the gamblers buying the the global 50/50 lottery tickets in the rich countries. In a simlilar ceremony, have the Pope or the Dalai Lama, this job could be alternated between the world's religious leaders, pick out the same thing, only it is given to poor people in the poor nations, who were registered by the international census. Finally, they pick out two one billion dollar winners, one in the rich nations and another in the poor nations. This would be a mostly automated ceremony relying heavily on modern computer hardware. This 'Love-Bombing' of unconditional money, peppering packets of wealth all over the globe, will serve to re-distribute the wealth in a way that will promote good will, international cooperation and unity throughout the world. It will also recharge their local economies, because by and large, the poor nations' people will invest the money in their own areas. Due to a statistical phenomena called reduction to the means, or what statisicians call 'the levelling drift', the wealth will tend to be distributed randomly or evenly around the the world, rather than be concentrated on the richest people buying entire 'books' of these tickets. These 'books' would come an encrypted microchip to enable lotttery stations to electronically scan the books for winners, or do it online on your PC. There is a possibility that this unconditional Godsend of wealth will happen to someone with terrorist inclinations , but that is statistically unlikely, and remember, they are terrorists WHEN THEY HAVE NOTHING. Great personal wealth always changes your priorities greatly. That one million relatives crawling out of the woodwork looking for a piece of your newfound pie. Further, if great global terrorism continues, once this thing gather public support, you could threathen to discontinue the 'Global 50/50 Lottery'. That would create a massive ground swell of grass roots oppostion to terror-related activity, because it would stop this 'Love-Bombing' of poor nations with sudden wealth packets to ANYBODY. We could create a special credit card for the winners, to tap into their funds from a central bank in Switzerland. Please keep in mind that we are spending billions of dollars on lotteries the world over anyway. This might just be an idea that is due now. But a global lottery should benefit everyone in the world, not just the rich nations. This idea has a few logistic problems, but nothing we could not remedy if we tried to. Remember, we live in the age of the Internet; we GOT the communication infra-structure for such a project as this now. OK, what does all this have to with fighting global warming? Well, if we manufactured vast arrays of windmill farms, various ocean-power devices like Pelamis to get electric power from waves or ocean currents, and solar cell panels to install all over the world, the 'free', clean electricity made by these systems that derive juice from wind, sea and sun, would enable us to miniamaze our dependancy on coal-burning electric power plants, that are emitting carbon dioxide and related greenhouse warming gases into the Earth's atmosphere, creating global warming. The reason why we are not doing that right now, is because we need a consistent way, like a global lottery, to PAY for the expensive windmills, etc. that this option requires. Further, the United Nations should create a special fund from the half of this lottery taken out beforehand in taxes and administrative costs, for the specific purpose of paying for the making and installation of these 'free' clean electrical power systems in the world's poorest nations, because the more 'free' clean electricity any nation's economy has, the STRONGER that economy is, with a LOT of permanent jobs made, and it would actually make a dent in global warming. It's a 'Hand Up' option towards economic independance, as opposed to a 'Hand Out' option that never lasts long. That covers it. Please forward this idea thread to the REAL experts in global warming.
As Individual I can think why not government look into it.

I drive every day 40 miles to work, Indirectly the affects on the environment from one normal individual. If I had choice I would not do that. I would look for alternate work commute.

1) Gas (3 gallons) ----- Helps in pollution

2) Tires usage -------- Helps in Pollution

3) Engine oils ------ Helps in pollution

Alternatively If the Road structures or the planning of the road system in such a way that I need not drive, but use a non pollutant means of transportation Like a regular Bicycle.. Yes bicycle I want to do atleast thrice a week when the weather is fine.....the other part is government takes initiative to build new roads but does not look into the smallest energy saving fact that saving fossil fuels is give the public options of using less or not using it, I will give the math to not using my car as commute.

3days a week on bicycle * savings on gas 3*3 = 9 gallons (one car)

from virginia to Washington commuters Approx (20,000) multiplies * 9 gallon/day = 180,000 gallons/day. saving in one city commute.

As Financial Planning for individual Enivronment Friendly Planning for Country,State,County,Individual

I am no Brainer when comes to State or county laws. My point making clear is as IRS monitors the income we earn and the tax to be paid back for state or federal.

The same system can a State/County follow ...

As and when a part of plantation is cutoff for laying road or selling to community to make homes, Every year cant a law or a monitoring body moniter the directly proportional plantation in the same county or same area with a growth of plantation that will keep the environment the same on a yearly basis.

The whole point from my point of view is you cut the x amount of trees, plant x+y amount of trees in an area where you know you are not going to use it for a while.

Sebastopol, CA
