Composting in Your New Garden

I enjoy growing my own food. We spent very little in getting the garden ready for sowing. We compost regularly and use the nutrient rich compost in our garden. There's very little work involved once you figure out how it works. I encourage anyone to recycle their food wastes. Just be sure to learn what and what not to throw into the compost pile and you'll do just fine. And to save water, be sure to mulch heavily with hay or straw. For arid regions, this really makes sense.

Two composts

Another thing to consider is having two composts set up. That way you can use one in the garden after the garden waste turns to compost. You than add new garden waste to another compost. So you ahve one for actually use in the garden and another developing.

So agree.  Composting to

So agree.  Composting to feed the soil is the whole secret to great vegetables.  We are making a 'hot' compost pile in our green house to try and eliminate the need for additional heating during the cold months when we raise our seedlings in there.  A combination of kitchen waste, horse manure, hay, leaves and other green matter can really raise the temperature as it composts down.  The smell may not be too great though!
