Avatar Earnings Break $1 Billion: #4 All Time Worldwide Grosses; Head to Head with Titanic

Avatar is still the number one movie over the New Year’s weekend. As of Jan. 3, Avatar’s earnings has exceeded the $1 billion mark, with $352 million domestic and $673 million outside of the US. James Cameron’s latest work is living up to the hype.

According to Box Office Mojo, Avatar beat The Dark Knight with the highest weekend gross in the 2nd week. It also beat Spider-Man in the 3rd week.

This week Avatar will go head to head with Titanic, which currently holds the number one spot for the highest gross movie in the 4th weekend.

Titanic was released on December 19, and Avatar was released on December 18. Perhaps this would give us a more objective comparison of the two. We shall see if Avatar can maintain its box office momentum this week.

Avatar now stands as #15 in domestic earnings, and #4 in worldwide earnings.
