My ten cents worth
My grandfather had bow from riding a horse. He had been foreman of an orchard in San Jose, where he met my Swedish grandmother whose family owned the orchard. They planted trees, and reaped the rewards of their efforts. My mother was a teacher in Santa Barbara. After the fires had destroyed many of the trees in the hills of Santa Barbara, my grandfather and her took her class into the hills and planted trees. I was a geologist who studied the nature of the earth and it's systems. After Hurricane Katrina, I joined 11th hour seeking a method to curb global warming.
I found the most effective way to do this is to do what my grandfather, and mother did, plant trees. Once awareness of the problem is clear, the solution becomes clear. At ten cents per tree, this is the best solution I have found to curb the effects of Global Warming: http://www.treesftf.org/
Politics, science, etc do absolutely nothing unless action is taken. Putting trees into the dirt and actually growing them is more valuable than all the action groups raising awareness, but producing no action. While there are many noble causes and actions taking place in the world at many different levels, I find planting trees at ten cents per tree the most productive use of money for the world community.
Planting trees now will help moderate weather conditions until advanced technical solutions are established to replace the fossil fuels we currently burn to run the world economies on.
So if you can take ten minutes from surfing the web, and check out this one website, perhaps you will see the profound effects planting trees can have on community, livelihood, preserving and restoring habitat, and a host of other benefits...at just ten cents per tree.
It's not rocket science and ten trees can be planted for the cost of one soda. I don't see how this will break the piggy bank of most Americans.
My ten cents worth,
Steve
