Los Angeles, the apocalypse, again
Every fall, Southern California is known to be afflicated with wildfires. And this year is no exception, on the face of it. If you don't live in LA, this is a passing news story, business as usual, but living here you know it is different. First of all the fire season has become a year-round "season" rather than just in the Fall. The continued drought and high temperatures has made most of California vulnerable to fires and over the last several years, the state has been streched to its limit in terms of funding and manpower to keep fighting these fires. And the fires are really big too. The one that is burning now over Pasadena is the size of Las Vegas, over 200 sq. miles! It creates its own wind patterns, its own weather. Luckily yesterday, the hurricane from Mexico sent up a plume of humid air, so the firefighters had a bit of a chance. Hurricane close to LA? Another different reality all in our new reality of climate change. I'd love to hear from others what they are noticing in their hometowns, if anything, that seems to be different due to the change in climate.
