Dear Friends,

We are thrilled to invite your organization to participate in this year's Peace Day Global Broadcast - Building Peace Through Sustainability. Held annually on September 21st, the United Nations International Day of Peace, the Peace Day Global Broadcast is a 24 Hour Internet, TV, and Radio event that showcases the efforts of organizations, like your own, working to preserve the planet and improve the living conditions of people worldwide through the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals.

The Peace Day Global Brodcast is organized by www.PeaceDay.TV; a collaboration between Culture of Peace Initiaitve, Unity Foundation, Peace Portal, and ShockRa Entertainment.

Established by U.N. resolution in 1982, "Peace Day" has grown to include millions of people around the world who participate in all kinds of events, both large and small. Since its inception, the International Day of Peace has been a focal point for Peace-building organizations to educate and advocate on behalf of the solutions they offer to the world community.

In the past few years, it’s been a day of global ceasefire, having tremendous impact on the lives of millions of children who’ve been immunized, had food delivered, and received educational supplies. Increasingly, Peace Day is being adopted as a day to unite the world community in addressing the most urgent issues of our time: climate change, the environment, hunger & poverty, social justice, & human rights.

The Peace Day Broadcast is a means to further connect individuals with groups and educate people around the world.

Your participation will help us achieve these goals. There are several different levels at which you may choose to participate that include; providing content about your organization's work, allowing live feeds from the events you may be planning, promoting the event, sponsorship, or sharing the www.PeaceDay.TV community website.

POVERTY - Addressing the Causes

Poverty is an effect, to solve a problem one must address the "cause."

To truly address poverty we need to recognize that it is the result of all the other inter-dependent sectors of life, from education to health care, access to technology and natural resources, most importantly what Human Rights you have.

There are many kinds of poverty, the causes of which vary depending on where you're looking, a rich country or a poor county.

As we enter the Information Age, humanity has real potential to address the "causes of poverty" in both rich and poor countries alike. The technological fixes available are the easy part, the hard part is having a cooperative spirit with greater respect for the Human Rights of a diverse humanity, if we can achieve that we will succeed in all that follows.
In poorer countries practical coordinated action needs to be taken to;

Improve supplies of clean water, to reduce time spent gathering often foul water and reduce illness caused by foul water supplies.
Improve the supply of accessible, affordable health care information and services, to reduce the vulnerability to disease of children and the elderly especially.
Improve training and equipment of farmers in poor countries related to agriculture and natural resource management, include help with seeds and expertise from groups like ECHO.
Increase access to education in combination with Information Age technology such as computers, ICT Systems, and cell phones via communty Access Points.
Relieve countries of the "Interest" charged on their debt, and reduce debt.
Help governments to outside help sustainable development help for non-governmental organizations, non-profits, and health missionaries.

In richer countries coordinated action should be taken to;

Improve the quality of educational opportunities and incentives with emphasis on the poor.
Increase diplomacy, international cooperation, and sustainable trade options to decrease necessity of future growing military expenditure. Make friends of foes, now the world is so interdependent we must cooperate; as individuals we do it all the time, now our governments acting as our collective voice needs to pursue options that lead to greater Peace.
Improve work training and apprenticeship incentives for the poor to focus on new Information Age opportunities. Using the Internet an individual can now get a job with someone else or work for themselves by offering their knowledge, art, music, and time. The industrial age is coming to a close, we need to educate for the new world because the factory jobs in places like Detroit are not coming back; we need to train for the present and future.
Increase the use of local exchange systems in communities to increase recycling, keep more wealth in the local economy for it's development, and stregthen community ties between the living people creating or growing available goods.

After fourteen years of research and development, Guy Negre has developed an engine that could become one of the biggest technological advances of this century. Its application to CAT vehicles gives them significant economical and environmental advantages.

With the incorporation of bi-energy (compressed air + fuel) the CAT Vehicles have increased their driving range to close to 2000 km with zero pollution in cities and considerably reduced pollution outside urban areas.

The application of the MDI engine in other areas, outside the automotive sector, opens a multitude of possibilities in nautical fields, co-generation, auxiliary engines, electric generators groups, etc.

This demonstrable community location is meant to be an example for development of other SCALES across the globe developed through <a href="http://peaceportal.mobi/open/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=126&Itemid=149" target="_blank">Access Point Project</a>. Charities from the local Eugene participating in the project include <a href="http://www.peacevillageinc.org/" target="_blank">Peace Villages</a>, <a href="http://www.manyhandscommunity.com/" target="_blank">ManyHands Community</a>, LIFTS (<a href="http://peaceportal.mobi/open/index.php?option=com_community&view=groups&task=viewgroup&groupid=62&Itemid=259" target="_blank">Lane Inter-Faith Teen Support</a>), <a href="http://www.manyone.net/LightofLifeSociety/" target="_blank">Light of Life Society</a>, World Peace Organism, ane <a href="http://www.energyvillages.org">Energy Villages</a>. <img src="http://www.peacevillageinc.org/index_files/pv2R5_17.gif" width="800" height="106" /> SCALE is being offered as an open source economic solution for any local group to create a community based credit exchange for trading goods, services, time, and knowledge - without use of money; and because a SCALE is the centerpiece of all Access Point Projects (APPS), a worldwide SCALE network is guaranteed to develop. This system allows people to exchange (recycle) clothes, toys, gadgets, coupons and more using “community credit” to get things they need; thereby decreasing the amount of “public money” one must earn to meet their family or individual needs. One purpose of SCALE as a Open Source Solution is to connect SCALEs in the developing world with those created in the 1st world by individuals such as your-self. Creating a SCALE is easy, it has two parts:<img src="http://peaceportal.mobi/open/images/stories/postcard-02.jpg" align="right" width="400" height="229" hspace="9" /> 1. Legal Structure: Create a Social Cooperative or Mutual Benefit Association Charter so people can contract in as members. Members agree to use the Cooperative Credits (currency) under the agreements of membership. A community may call there currency aything they wish, and devise their own rules relative to their local culture or beliefs. *A sample Word Doc file of a SCALE Charter may be requested from peaceportal.mobi@gmail.com. 2. Physical Structure: A local place for drop off of goods, with a trusted staff working under the Associations rules, is the 2nd step. We have found local churches starting the association as a inter-faith project with complimenting educational opportunities is the best approach. In many ways, a SCALE is a bigger version of a clothing exchange you might find at any community center or church, instead of issuing tickets for clothes or items put in to balance what goes out, we use digital credits. A SCALE leverages the potentials of the Information Age. To decrease the number of items being placed into the wharehouse a local on-line auction site is provided (free to use) so people with credits can find things from other members. For example I may bring a item into the SCALE and be issued 22 credits, but there is nothing in the wharehouse I want. So I go on-line and see you have something you're offering for 20 credits, so we get together and exchange by my transferring the 20 credits to your on-line account, and you giving me the item. In this way whatever is "in the wharehouse" is acting as backing for community credits being passed around in the community membeship at large.

Atraction's action communities are created to help people plug-in and engage after seeing our films. Help us continue our work and support the message by buying our DVDs, T-shirts or other cool things related to our films. The films we make are created to raise awareness and help foster change around issues of the environment, social justice, consciousness, health and well-being. With each film we launch and action community and conduct educational tours of the film to universities and schools. We also create teaching materials that help people dive deeper into the subject. By purchasing a DVD, or other things, you help spread the message.

Purpose

The purpose of this website is to inspire people to take action. We encourage people to take action at home and in their communities. On this social action website, you will see thousands of examples of what people have chosen to do to make the world a better place. We believe that when people see what other people are doing, it helps them take action too. So we ask that you open a profile, and tell us what action you are doing, perhaps you are going to plant a vegetable garden, or you are going to help start a recycling program at school, whatever it is, let us know and tell us how it's going. You can post videos, pictures and statements. If you need inspiration, check and see what people have done by looking on the action map or joining a group that has already started. Together, step by step, action by action, we can create a healthy and just world.
