Dixie-putting out an out-dated message

While watching the news late at night last weekend I found myself tuning into a Dixie commercial intently.

The scene showcased a happy family centered around the kitchen table, eating a meal together....off of paper plates. The family wasn't picknicking or camping. They were eating within the confines of their own home.

The commercial stressed the convenience of using paper plates, saying that the moments saved using Dixie products added up over time-meaning that time spent washing real dishes takes away from valuable family time--shedding bad light on reusable products.

I was pretty upset, so I visited the Dixie website where slogans such as "pack 'em and toss 'em" abide, as well as a special "Dixie mom" section and the opportunity to view photos of paper plateware made to look like real stoneware but in reality is "affordable enough to toss away at the end of a meal."

All of this seems eerily outdated to me-in a day and age where we are trying to save water (from washing REAL dishes) and get people to bring their own plateware to the office and even reduce the waste from takeout. Paper plates in the household only encourages the population to regress in the movements towards less waste.

I'm so glad you posted about

I'm so glad you posted about this ad - You are absolutely right!  When I saw it I thought they had brought out some commercial from the 80's by mistake.

What disturbs me is not only are they encouraging totally unnecessary waste in order to validate the existence of their useless product but that they must know there is a market out there for this idea.
