Economics & the Root Cause of Ecological Ruin

The Industrial Age economic model creates money out of thin air and requires the living people and the Earth pay the bill in labor and natures resources. When peoples labor pays the bill a debt crisis is eventually created with poverty the inevitable result; when nature pays the bill the environment is damaged. This economic model based on competiton and conflict has created a legacy of debt, and a withering planetary environment.

If we wish to address the causes of Global Warming, not too mention debt, sustainable food security, and many of the other ills facing more than half the worlds population we'll need to rexamine the fiat money system as well as energy creation models.

There are multiple options for alternative debt free money and exchange options; especially at the local level. These include FreeCycling, LETS, SCALE, and even TimeBanks. If we wish to truly live more sustainably we need to start complimenting the costly public debt system with local community currencies.

Atraction's action communities are created to help people plug-in and engage after seeing our films. We believe that when people see what other people are doing, it helps them take action too. So we ask that you open a profile, and tell us what action you are doing, perhaps you are going to plant a vegetable garden, or you are going to help start a recycling program at school, whatever it is, let us know and tell us how it's going. You can post videos, pictures and statements. If you need inspiration, check and see what people have done by looking on the action map or joining a group that has already started.
