Request for 11thhouraction website staff - a reader-contributed "Actions" page

(I'd tried to send this via the broken Contact form)

After seeing An Inconvenient Truth - and being moved by it - I went to the film's website (climatecrisis.net) hoping to join a DailyKos-like community of people equally interested to work out ideas/suggestions/actions with...and there wasn't one.

You have the opportunity to create one, by actively managing this site, creating a locus where we can _see_ others' ideas/actions and they can see ours and we can build off each others'.

But in order to make this happen you will need to make a 'filter' so that this info gets concentrated - and right now there isn't one.

Possible solution: have a page on the site for suggested actions; ask readers to give ideas in their blogs (and tag the post as "action"? right now I think there's no way to tag posts), then you (or, if tagging's been implemented, it could be automatic) give the 'action' posts visibility on this 'actions-only' page.

Please do something like this - don't let peoples' energies get dissipated.

(t's frustrating to come to a site wanting to contribute, but either a) find that it's really a 'broadcast' site and we're meant to listen not speak; or b) find that there's no way to filter the readers' contributions for quality or topic, so you never see the best ones.)

oops, I forgot that the

oops, I forgot that the Subject line in the "post a comment" form is a placebo and doesn't show up - subject for my previous (below) comment is:

Oops(argh) the reader-contributed actions are on the Actions page

oops (argh) there is a place for reader-contributed actions

but it's not visible, when you go to the Actions page, you have to know to scroll down (past the big friendly "Here's what we think you should do" buttons etc) - I didn't.

And the Shaklee ad-blog... please, PLEASE, don't allow this.

where is the Daily Kos for climate change activism?

When I joined this site

When I joined this site about 2 months ago posting a blog allowed tagging for all pages, but for quite a while now (for me at least) it has been blocked. I can understand why the news/main page would be restricted, but I believe the Take Action page should not. Inappropriate posting could always be removed by administration, right? The people who come to this website should be able to have easy access to the Idea Matrix topics. I currently have to go to the blog page to find it. Why not have the Idea Matrix column on the main or Take Action page? I believe it will help people find quicker info on specific subjects. I see that admin. is now allowing tags again for the Idea Matrix when submitting a blog, that is a good thing, but don't forget the Take Action page. I also think there should be a note on the Blog Entry page to encourage people to categorize an action blog in the Idea Matrix. I am just trying to give an idea on making it easier for people to spread the word using this website.

sorry, its admin funciton

sorry, its admin funciton presently, we'll get something set up

dynamic

Agreed Anna. Not that I have any fantastic suggestions or direction to give, however.

I would like a more robust discussion function. There are many people here generating fantastic ideas, but its hard to communicate to one another in a dynamic fashion.

Also, perhaps there could be on the blogs page the integration of other blogs about sustainability and human culture.

I would encourage everyone who uses this site to also check out WiserEarth.org

It is a fantastic resource to find organizations, resources, events, and find others interested in the subjects you are, There have been rumors / announcements that 11thhouraction.com is going to hook up with WiserEarth.org in a higher level fashion, I think it would benefit both sites and both sets of users

Joe- I don't see how I can tag my own blog posts, I took a look again so maybe I'm missing something

Hi Anna,   Thanks for your

Hi Anna,

Thanks for your comments, the website is a work in progress and we are trying to set up it so the communityhas great control over both the content and actions, nothing is going to happen unless we all participate.

On your specific question of tagging, when you post a blog you should get a list of tags to choose from, thanks and please continue to help make this all work.

We are also fixing the contact form, so please pardon our glitches and thanks again.

peace

joe

And maybe an "ideas and actions" contest?

It'd be great if you could somehow highlight and give special recognition to particularly good ideas and actions - e.g. (in my opinion) jmsloop and Dan deserve kudos (and tickets?) for Put a Fire on It.

Or we the readers could vote for our favorites, once enough of us are registered.
